About the album

Raye made her name the hard way, walking away from a major label to put out My 21st Century Blues herself and winning a record six Brits for her trouble. This Music May Contain Hope keeps the independent streak (it's out on her own Human Re Sources) but blows the canvas wide open: jazz, big band, soul, blues and full-on orchestral pop, all held together by that huge, cracked, utterly human voice.

She wrote and co-produced it with a small crew that includes, of all people, Hans Zimmer, who turns up on "Click Clack Symphony." Al Green drops by too, and so do her sisters Amma and Absolutely. The title is a promise and a warning label at once: these are songs about hope and liberation that don't pretend the hard stuff isn't there. "Where Is My Husband!" is the hit, but it's the slow-burners that'll stick with you.
