Rancid's 1994 second album Let's Go in a 20th anniversary edition, remastered on 180g vinyl, with "Salvation," "Radio" and "Nihilism."
This 20th anniversary edition is remastered on 180g vinyl in an embossed jacket, with the album on CD as well. Let's Go went gold, and Rolling Stone placed it 24th among the 40 best records of 1994.
Some bands agonize over a second album for years. Rancid went into Fantasy Studios in Berkeley with Brett Gurewitz in October 1993 and cut twenty-three songs in six days, and you can hear every minute of that urgency. "Radio" and "Dope Sick Girl" had already turned up on a Fat Wreck Chords single and were reworked for the album.
It was their first album with Lars Frederiksen joining Tim Armstrong on guitar and vocals, alongside bassist Matt Freeman and drummer Brett Reed, and the extra guitar gives the songs a big, ringing punch. "Salvation" became their first taste of alternative radio, "Nihilism" and "Side Kick" tear out of the gate, and "Tenderloin" and "Harry Bridges" carry the Bay Area streets and docks in their bones. AllMusic called it sheer energy, a party-ready version of the Clash.
Guitar World later ranked it among the top guitar albums of 1994, and it paved the way for ...And Out Come the Wolves a year later. Twenty-three songs in six days works out at nearly four a day, a pace our staff have yet to match with the price gun.
