Rancid's 1995 punk classic ...And Out Come the Wolves, remastered, with "Ruby Soho," "Time Bomb" and "Roots Radicals."
With "Ruby Soho," "Time Bomb" and "Roots Radicals," ...And Out Come the Wolves is the high-water mark of nineties punk, ska-soaked and endlessly singable.
After Green Day and the Offspring blew up, every major label in America wanted Rancid. The band stayed put on Epitaph, borrowed a line from Jim Carroll's The Basketball Diaries for the title, and made the best record of their lives.
Nineteen songs, not a dud among them. Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman's Operation Ivy roots come through in the ska bounce of "Time Bomb" and the skanking "Roots Radicals," "Maxwell Murder" tears out of the gate (with Freeman's famous bass solo), and "Ruby Soho" is one of the great punk singalongs of all time. "Journey to the End of the East Bay" is a misty-eyed love letter to where it all started.
It went platinum in the US and kept the band's old fans while winning a mountain of new ones. It still sounds like a Saturday night in the pit.
