About the album

Rosenrot started life as leftovers, though you'd never guess it. Six of its songs were written for Reise, Reise and held back, and for a while the album went by the working title Reise, Reise Volume Two before Rammstein named it after a fairy tale in August 2005.

Rammstein barely promoted it, choosing to build the buzz quietly with one-minute samples and a countdown on their website, but the songs did the talking. "Benzin" premiered live at Berlin's Wuhlheide and hits like a fuel tanker, "Mann gegen Mann" pounds away, and the title track swells into one of their biggest choruses. "Spring" and "Wo bist du" go dark and heavy, "Stirb nicht vor mir (Don't Die Before I Do)" is a rare tender duet, "Te Quiero P*ta!" goes full mariachi in Spanish, and "Ein Lied" closes on a hushed note.

The cover photo shows the American icebreaker USS Atka at McMurdo Station in Antarctica in 1960, a striking image for a band that usually travels with its own fire supply. Under the circumstances, it was probably wise to pack something to keep the stage cool.
