About the album

Few bands have made anxiety sound this much like a summer afternoon. Michael Angelakos built Passion Pit's sound out of falsetto, sequencers and big, bright hooks, and on his second album he pushed all three further while writing some of his most personal songs.

Recorded in Los Angeles and New York in 2011 and produced by Angelakos with Chris Zane, who had also made the debut Manners, Gossamer came out through Columbia and Frenchkiss. "Take a Walk" opens with a stomping, horn-flecked tale of money and family, and its video was shot in Philadelphia from the point of view of a bouncing ball. "I'll Be Alright" landed on FIFA 13 and Pitchfork's Best New Track list, as did "Constant Conversations," which later got a Juicy J remix. "Carried Away" bounces along, and "Cry Like a Ghost" got a video from Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, later of Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The Guardian praised Angelakos's knack for making sunlight and sparkle out of an arsenal of computers. He told NME in 2010 that he hoped to finish it by the spring of 2011; it arrived in July 2012, and we'd say the extra year was money very well spent.
