About the album

You'd expect a band on Relapse, the home of grindcore and sludge, to be the loudest thing in the building. Nothing are, but in a dreamy, billowing way: Domenic Palermo and Brandon Setta stack up towering, distorted guitars, bury hushed vocals deep in the mix and let the whole thing swell like a storm front rolling over Philadelphia.

"Dig" was the first single, "Bent Nail" got a video with a cameo from Kurt Vile, and "Endlessly" was memorably described as Built to Spill bruised up and melted into a puddle. "Hymn to the Pillory" and "Somersault" sit right in the My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive tradition, with Chris Betts on bass and Kyle Kimball on drums keeping it heavy. Jeff Zeigler produced and mixed it at Uniform Recordings, and Heba Kadry mastered. Relapse later issued a Pride edition, with the cover's white flag redrawn in rainbow colours and proceeds going to LGBT youth charities.

AllMusic said it was music crafted from pain into high art, and the Boston Globe called it lovely and lethal. A band called Nothing making something this big is the kind of joke we can get behind.
