About the album

By the end of 1992 Nevermind had made Nirvana the biggest band on the planet, and fans were trading tapes of their early singles and radio sessions. Sub Pop and DGC teamed up to put the best of it out properly in time for Christmas, and Kurt Cobain took charge of the artwork, painting the cover himself.

"Dive" and "Sliver" come from the 1990 single, "Aneurysm" and "Been A Son" catch the band at full roar, and "Molly's Lips" and "Son Of A Gun" pay tribute to their Scottish heroes The Vaselines. There's a cover of Devo's "Turnaround," a brisk "(New Wave) Polly," and early gems like "Downer," "Mexican Seafood" and "Big Long Now."

It's the raw, scrappy, melodic side of Nirvana, and many fans prefer it to the hits. Odds and ends rarely sound this essential; ours tend to end up in a drawer behind the counter.
