About the album

After Nevermind made them superstars, Nirvana went to Pachyderm Studios in Minnesota in February 1993 with Steve Albini and came back with something raw, loud and unvarnished. Bob Ludwig mastered it and Scott Litt remixed a few singles, and the result was their third and final studio album.

"Heart-Shaped Box" and "All Apologies" both topped the Modern Rock chart, "Serve The Servants" opens with Kurt Cobain at his most wry, "Dumb" and "Pennyroyal Tea" show his gift for melody, and "Scentless Apprentice" and "Milk It" are pure noise and power. Among the extras are Dave Grohl's "Marigold," "Sappy" and "Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through The Strip."

It's certified 6x platinum in the US and turns up on every list of the greatest albums ever made. Naming a song "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" remains the most candid bit of sales forecasting in rock.
