Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' 2013 album Push the Sky Away, with "Jubilee Street," "Higgs Boson Blues" and "We No Who U R."
Push the Sky Away was the Bad Seeds' first No. 1 album in Australia, a hushed, hypnotic masterpiece Billboard called their commercial breakthrough.
After years of thunder and bloodshed, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds made their quietest, strangest and most spellbinding record. Push the Sky Away was recorded in a 19th-century mansion in southern France with producer Nick Launay, and you can almost hear the walls breathing.
Warren Ellis' loops and violin glide under Cave's half-spoken poetry. "We No Who U R" opens with a soft, eerie hush, "Jubilee Street" builds from a slow walk into a glorious, swirling climax, "Higgs Boson Blues" is an eight-minute fever dream, and "Wide Lovely Eyes" and the title track are achingly beautiful.
It topped the charts in six countries beyond Australia. Out on the band's own Bad Seed label, it's a late-career triumph and the start of a remarkable new chapter.
