About the album

Niall Horan wanted Heartbreak Weather to work like a story, each song told from a different side of a relationship, or from someone looking in. Recorded between October 2018 and January 2020, his second solo album took cues from Bruce Springsteen, Arctic Monkeys and The Weeknd. It came out on 13 March 2020, and it's a bright, bold pop record built around big hooks.

Four singles led the way. "Nice to Meet Ya" is a strutting, funky opener he took to Saturday Night Live (it reached No. 7 in Ireland), "Put a Little Love on Me" is a piano ballad, "No Judgement" drew comparisons to his 2017 hit "Slow Hands," and "Black and White" is a sweeping, wedding-ready love song. Album tracks like "Dear Patience," "Bend the Rules" and "Still" fill out the story.

It's the record where the Mullingar singer stepped confidently into a sound all his own, warm and hooky from start to finish, with a chorus around every corner. An album called Heartbreak Weather on baby blue vinyl is about as close to a sunny forecast as we get in a Toronto November.
