About the album

Motion City Soundtrack said goodbye in 2016 with a farewell tour that ended in a sold-out Chicago show. Then came a reunion, a run of anniversary tours, nostalgia-festival slots and, in time, the itch to write again. The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World is what came of it, a Moog-bright emo record from a band that sounds very happy to be back.

Sean O'Keefe, who worked with the band back in the 2000s, produced and mixed it, and the band tracked at Electrical Audio, Steve Albini's studio. Lead single "She Is Afraid" arrived with a video inspired by Severance, "Particle Physics" brings in Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, and "You Know Who The F*** We Are" is a cheerfully defiant reintroduction. Justin Pierre has said that where earlier records dealt with confusion, this one comes from a clearer sense of who he is, and "Bloodline" and the title track carry that newfound confidence.

For anyone who wore out Commit This To Memory, it's a warm reunion. The band took a decade off; we'd like to think they were simply waiting for the right shade of orange.
