The Moldy Peaches' 2001 album on red vinyl with a bonus 7-inch of "County Fair" and "Rainbows," plus "Anyone Else but You" and "Lucky Number Nine."
This edition puts the album on red vinyl and adds a bonus 7-inch single. "Anyone Else but You" found a whole new audience in the film Juno, and the record remains a cornerstone of New York's anti-folk scene.
Adam Green and Kimya Dawson first met at Exile on Main Street Records in Mount Kisco, New York. They started making music together, recorded at home, moved to Port Townsend, Washington and back again, and ended up in the thick of New York's anti-folk scene, playing the SideWalk Cafe with a revolving cast of friends.
By 2000 the band had reformed with Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors on lead guitar, Brian Piltin on bass and Strictly Beats on drums, and the songs they cut landed them a deal with Rough Trade. The album is gloriously lo-fi and funny, with "Lucky Number Nine" opening in a ramshackle strum, "These Burgers" and "Steak for Chicken" taking silly to an art form, and "Lucky Charms" and "Lazy Confessions" slipping in real tenderness. "Anyone Else but You," the sweetly awkward duet that became their best known song, is still among the most charming love songs of its decade. The 7-inch adds "County Fair" and "Rainbows."
The pair made a few reunion appearances after Juno, and in 2023 announced they'd reunite properly. Proof, if any were needed, that hanging around record shops pays off eventually; we remind our staff of this daily.
