About the album

Twenty-five years to the day after their first single, Mogwai put out their tenth album in the UK, and it went straight to the top of the charts, a result the band called "totally surreal." They'd started writing in February 2020, just before lockdown, and ended up recording at Vada Studios in England while producer Dave Fridmann worked remotely from the United States.

"Dry Fantasy" is a shimmering, synth-washed beauty, "Ritchie Sacramento" gives Stuart Braithwaite a rare and lovely vocal, and "Ceiling Granny" brings back the big, crunching guitars. Atticus Ross and Kirk Hellie join on "Midnight Flit," Colin Stetson's saxophone snakes through "Pat Stains," and "Here We, Here We, Here We Go Forever" unfolds with real patience.

The cover's stuffed white fox comes from a 1910 photograph by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky in the Library of Congress. As for the song titles, Mogwai have long had a gift for them, and "It's What I Wanna Do, Mum" may be the most relatable thing ever printed on a record sleeve.
