About the album

Some bands have so many classics that one compilation can't hold them all. The Misfits' 1986 Collection gathered the early singles and Earth A.D., and Collection II arrived in November 1995 on Caroline to scoop up much of the rest, sitting alongside Walk Among Us and Legacy of Brutality on the shelf of anyone serious about horror punk.

Glenn Danzig wrote every song and compiled the set, and it rattles through 20 tracks in about 35 minutes. "We Are 138" and "Attitude" are early-days snarl, "Return of the Fly" turns up officially after years on bootlegs, "Rat Fink" is the band's one cover from their first run (an Allan Sherman novelty song), and two takes on "Halloween" bring the season indoors. "Hate Breeders," "Braineaters," "Hellhound" and "Bloodfeast" keep the B-movie theme going, some of them in alternate versions you won't hear on the original records.

It's horror punk at its sharpest, B-movie lyrics set to doo-wop-sized melodies and played at full tilt. Between this and the first Collection, a newcomer can get most of the Danzig-era Misfits story in two records, and a longtime fan can finally retire that worn-out cassette. Ideal for Halloween, and for the other 364 days too, if your neighbours are understanding.
