About the album

Every pop star gets one chance to start over, and Miley Cyrus took hers at full volume. Freshly signed to RCA in 2013, she called Bangerz her real debut, teamed up with executive producer Mike WiLL Made It and built a pop and R&B record that sounded nothing like the one before it.

"We Can't Stop" slows a party anthem to a woozy crawl and reached No. 2 on the Hot 100, "Wrecking Ball" is the huge, heart-on-sleeve ballad everyone remembers, and "Adore You" opens things gently. Britney Spears drops in on "SMS (Bangerz)," Nelly on "4x4," Big Sean on "Love Money Party," French Montana on "FU" and Future on "My Darlin'," a twist on a classic soul song. Big hooks, sparse beats and surprisingly tender moments like "Maybe You're Right" and "Someone Else" make it a much richer listen than the headlines of the day suggested.

The album's turn from Disney star to pop artist has been studied ever since, and critics now count it among the decade's key pop reinventions. The sea glass vinyl, we're pleased to report, is considerably easier to handle than a wrecking ball.
