Miles Davis's 1969 ambient jazz landmark In a Silent Way, with Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter and John McLaughlin: "Shhh / Peaceful" and "In a Silent Way / It's About That Time."
In a Silent Way is widely seen as Miles Davis's first fusion record, a hypnotic, dreamlike set that opened the door to Bitches Brew and an entire era of jazz.
Recorded in a single session at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in February 1969 and shaped by producer Teo Macero's editing, In a Silent Way floats on electric pianos, John McLaughlin's shimmering guitar and Tony Williams's gentle, insistent hi-hat.
Each side is one long, flowing piece: "Shhh / Peaceful" glides along in a calm, meditative groove, while Joe Zawinul's "In a Silent Way" blooms into the funky, building "It's About That Time." Essential listening.
