![Miles Davis: The Complete Birth of the Cool (2LP, Mono) [BLUE NOTE]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/33149409/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-miles-davis-the-complete-birth-of-the-co.jpg)
Miles Davis's The Complete Birth of the Cool on 2LP in mono: the landmark nonet studio sessions of 1949 and 1950, plus live recordings from 1948.
Birth of the Cool launched cool jazz, with Miles leading a nonet of arrangers and players including Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan, John Lewis and Lee Konitz. This set gathers everything.
Working out of Gil Evans's New York apartment, Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, John Lewis, Johnny Carisi and Evans developed a new, lighter, more arranged sound for a nine-piece band with French horn and tuba, a cool counterpoint to the heat of bebop.
The studio sides include classics like "Move," "Jeru," "Boplicity," "Israel" and "Moon Dreams," and this complete edition adds the nonet's live broadcasts from the Royal Roost in 1948.
