Michael Jackson's 1991 new jack swing album on 2LP: "Black or White," "Remember the Time," "Jam" and "Heal the World."
On order
Dangerous was Jackson's first album without Quincy Jones and one of the best-selling records of the '90s, with Teddy Riley bringing the new jack swing. "Black or White" went to No. 1 around the world, and Slash plays guitar on "Give In to Me."
Four years after Bad, Michael Jackson went looking for a new sound, and he found it in Teddy Riley, the Harlem producer who had invented new jack swing. Dangerous is harder, funkier and more percussive than anything Jackson had made with Quincy Jones: clanging industrial beats, beatboxing, gospel choirs and rock guitar all tumble together, with Jackson writing or co-writing most of it himself.
The hits just kept coming: "Black or White" (with its famous video premiere), "Remember the Time," "In the Closet," "Jam," "Who Is It" and the singalong "Heal the World." Heavy D raps on "Jam," and Slash tears through "Give In to Me." It's a sprawling, ambitious record, and a lot of fans quietly rank it as his most adventurous.
