About the album

Chris Davids and Liam Ivory met at school in Berkhamsted, a commuter town north of London, and were remixing other people's records by the age of 16. A run of EPs and remixes for the likes of Fatboy Slim and Lana Del Rey followed, and in June 2015 they finally put out their first full-length album on Counter Records, the Ninja Tune imprint they've called home ever since.

Portraits is warm, melodic electronic music with real songs at its heart. "The Clown" with North Downs was the single that set things up, "Midas" and "Steal" feature the silky vocals of their long-time collaborator Holly Walker, and "Wallflower," "Raincoats" and "Varkala" drift between deep house and late-night downtempo. Sides A to C hold the original album, and side D adds the MS edit of "Rituals" plus remixes and re-edits of "Wallflower," "The Clown" and "Midas."

The duo have since grown into a full live band with sold-out shows across Europe and North America, Toronto included. Ten years on, Portraits still sounds like the sun coming up after a very good night, which is a feeling we're told some people have on purpose.
