Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1973 debut (Pronounced 'Leh-'nerd 'Skin-'nerd): "Free Bird," "Simple Man," "Gimme Three Steps" and "Tuesday's Gone."
Skynyrd's debut is a Southern rock cornerstone, with "Free Bird" and "Simple Man" among the most beloved rock songs ever recorded.
Produced by Al Kooper at Studio One in Doraville, Georgia, the debut captured songs the Jacksonville band had honed for years on stage, with Ronnie Van Zant's plainspoken vocals and a triple-guitar attack.
"Free Bird" builds from a tender ballad into one of rock's greatest guitar finales, "Simple Man" is heartfelt wisdom, "Gimme Three Steps" is a rowdy story-song, and "Tuesday's Gone" is wistful and lovely.
Recorded in Georgia, loved everywhere with a tailgate. Lighters, these days, are optional.
