About the album

Before he ever made an album of his own, Luther Vandross spent the 1970s lending it to everyone else (David Bowie's Young Americans, Chic, Quincy Jones) before his 1981 solo debut, Never Too Much, finally put his own name on the front. This collection arrived alongside the 2024 documentary Luther: Never Too Much.

Side A opens with the title track and rolls through "Power Of Love / Love Power," "Give Me The Reason" and "Stop To Love." Side B is the slow-dance side: "Endless Love" with Mariah Carey, "Always And Forever" and his seven-minute reading of "A House Is Not A Home," one of his signature songs. Side C brings "Here And Now," "So Amazing," "Dance With My Father" and "The Closer I Get To You" with Beyoncé, and Side D closes with new mixes from Lost Frequencies and Louie Vega.

Few voices in R&B have been so warm, so precise or so instantly calming. Put Side B on at a dinner party and watch the conversation politely give up.
