Lord Huron's 2018 third album Vide Noir as a 2LP set in a gatefold jacket, with "Ancient Names," "Wait by the River" and "When the Night Is Over."
This 2LP set comes in a gatefold jacket. Vide Noir was Lord Huron's major-label debut and their highest-charting album in the US, reaching No. 9 on the Billboard 200.
Vide Noir is French for black void, and Ben Schneider found his on long night drives around Los Angeles: across the twinkling grid of the Valley, through the neon canyons of downtown and out to the dark ocean. Somewhere along the way the drives turned into an odyssey through the city and out into the cosmos, and Lord Huron had their third album.
It came after "The Night We Met" found a second life on 13 Reasons Why and caught Republic's ear. Schneider wrote and produced it, and the band chose Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips) to mix, pushing the bass and drums up front and roughing up the acoustic guitars. "Ancient Names (Part 1)" has the band's familiar indie folk shimmer, "Part 2" kicks into garage rock, "Wait by the River" is a woozy waltz, and "Never Ever" and "Moonbeam" glow like headlights in fog.
The band takes its name from Lake Huron, where Schneider spent his summers growing up in Michigan. We share that lake, so as far as we're concerned this counts as a local record.
