About the album

The cover shows the four members of Kiss on a Manhattan street corner in business suits, which is funny enough on its own until you learn that Peter Criss was the one who owned a suit; the others borrowed theirs from manager Bill Aucoin. Casablanca boss Neil Bogart produced the record with the band, and they cut it in ten days at Electric Lady Studios in February 1975.

It's a lean, punchy hard rock record. "Rock and Roll All Nite" is the anthem, with the road crew zipping their leather jackets in rhythm on the chorus, "C'mon and Love Me" opens with Paul Stanley on lead guitar, "Room Service" and "Rock Bottom" show off Ace Frehley, and Gene Simmons wrote "Ladies in Waiting" in a single afternoon. "She" and "Two Timer" round out a set built for the stage.

Later that year the live take of "Rock and Roll All Nite" from Alive! reached No. 12 on the Hot 100, and these songs became concert staples for good. Thirty minutes from top to bottom, it's the most efficient way we know to hear Kiss in full, and it leaves plenty of time to apply the makeup.
