About the album

Kero Kero Bonito first found an audience with bright, bilingual bubblegum pop built on a little Casio keyboard. Then they toured their debut, Bonito Generation, played a formative show in Jakarta, came home to the London suburbs and decided to make whatever they wanted. Gus Lobban went back to the drums, Jamie Bulled picked up the bass again, and the result is Time 'n' Place.

Lobban recorded it in Bermondsey and in his own room in Bromley, inspired by the indie band Crying and by suburban guitar heroes like My Bloody Valentine and Lush. The lead single starts as a sugar rush and then glitches into noise, "Time Today" and "Make Believe" shimmer, and "Dear Future Self" adds a string arrangement by Bo-En. Perry wrote many lyrics from childhood memories after hearing that her family's old house in Japan had been torn down, which gives songs like "Swimming" and "Visiting Hours" a tender, wistful glow.

Noisey called it a record that "feels like a rebirth," and Exclaim! heard the band's most cohesive work. It's still the one their fans hand to friends first, usually with a short speech about frogs.
