Journey's 1983 album Frontiers, with "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," "Faithfully" and "Send Her My Love," as a 40th anniversary 180g LP plus a bonus 7" single.
This 40th anniversary edition is remastered from the original master tapes on 180g vinyl and adds a bonus 7" of new Steve Perry and Bryce Miller remixes. Frontiers reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and went six times platinum.
Following Escape is nobody's idea of an easy job, and Journey met it head on. Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory and Steve Smith went in with producers Mike Stone and Kevin Elson and came out with a bigger, punchier, synth-edged record built for the arenas they were by then filling every night.
"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" opens with that pounding keyboard riff and climbed to No. 8, while "Faithfully," Cain's ballad written on the tour bus, became the band's slow-dance standard; Classic Rock later called it the greatest power ballad of all time. "Send Her My Love" and "After The Fall" were hits too, and "Chain Reaction" owned rock radio. Jim Welch's cover, with its tunnels and figure from another world, was the band's first in years without Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, and it suits the sharper, more modern sound inside.
"Only The Young" and "Ask The Lonely" were pulled from the running order at the last minute in 1983, and "Only The Young" went Top 10 anyway two years later. Here they're back with the album they were written for, forty years late and looking very well on it.
