About the album

You know these songs. You've heard them at weddings, in films and drifting out of a car window on the first warm day of spring. What you probably haven't heard is this mix: the Jackson 5's hits spread out for four speakers in 1975 for the Japanese market, now folded down to stereo so the details land in a whole new place.

The first Greatest Hits arrived in late 1971 and gathered the group's run of Motown smashes in one place: "I Want You Back" and "Who's Lovin' You" from the debut, "ABC," "The Love You Save" and "I Found That Girl" from ABC, "I'll Be There," "Mama's Pearl" and "Goin' Back to Indiana" from Third Album, and "Never Can Say Goodbye" and "Maybe Tomorrow." The new track, "Sugar Daddy," was cut at Motown's Los Angeles studio in 1971.

Young Michael's lead vocals still jump out of the speakers, and "Goin' Back to Indiana" sounds like a family with no intention of going anywhere quietly.
