Iggy Pop's 1977 Berlin album Lust For Life, made with David Bowie on keyboards: the title track, "The Passenger" and "Sixteen."
This edition is remastered at Capitol Mastering and pressed in the EU. Lust For Life reached No. 28 in the UK, his highest-charting album there until 2016.
After The Idiot and a tour with David Bowie playing keyboards behind him, Iggy Pop was tired of being asked about Bowie. So for the next one he took the wheel. He moved into his own flat in their Berlin building, wrote with guitarist Ricky Gardiner, and walked into Hansa Studio by the Wall with a tour-hardened band that included Hunt and Tony Sales and Carlos Alomar.
Iggy barely slept and improvised lyrics at the microphone, and you can hear it. The title track rides that unstoppable drum pattern, "The Passenger" is a cool, rolling sightseeing trip, "Sixteen" is his own arrangement and pure Stooges snarl, and "Success" and "Some Weird Sin" swagger. On "Fall In Love With Me" the band even swapped instruments on the spot. Bowie, Pop and engineer Colin Thurston produced it as the "Bewlay Bros."
Iggy said the whole album was written, recorded and mixed in eight days. It takes us longer than that to agree on the shop playlist.
