Why you'll love it

About the album

Hot Chip made The Warning at home in Putney, and NME reckoned the normality of the surroundings suited them. Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard produced it as a duo, turning the quirky electro-pop of their debut into something sharper, darker and far more dancefloor-ready.

"Over and Over" is the big one, a nagging, joyous groove that charted twice in the UK, "And I Was a Boy from School" is tender and bittersweet, and "(Just Like We) Breakdown" got the DFA treatment from James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy. The title track sets soft glockenspiel against menacing words, and "No Fit State" and "Colours" show off their gift for melancholy melody.

Pitchfork singled out the title track as a centrepiece, and critics heard the band taking a step away from Prince and a step toward LCD Soundsystem. Not bad for a record made at home.
