About the album

There's a particular kind of record you put on once the party has quietly turned into a conversation, and Groove Armada have always known that hour well. Andy Cato and Tom Findlay met through a mutual friend, started a London club night called Captain Sensual at the Helm of the Groove Armada, and by the time of Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub) had the Grammy-nominated "Superstylin'" to their name.

Asked to dig out the music they play when the lights go down, they went wide. A Dubtribe mix of "Lovin' Me" and the "Underwater Trumpet Mix" of "(We Can) Work It Out" set the tone, "Java Jam" and "Breathe" drift past, and the second disc slides from "Miura" and "Standing in the Rain" into "Strawberry Letter 23," "Can You Feel It" and "Day Dreaming." Soul, jazz-funk, synth-pop and downtempo all get a look in, sequenced with the ear of two people who learned their trade behind the decks.

Late Night Tales has since become a byword for after-hours taste, and this one still sounds like the best-kept secret in somebody's flat. In our experience the neighbours never complain about this one; they just knock to ask what it is.
