About the album

Nothing broadens a young band's outlook like a couple of years on the road. The Kiszka brothers and drummer Danny Wagner came home from touring their debut having seen far more of the world than Frankenmuth, Michigan, and they poured it into a bigger, darker and more cinematic record about faith, war and the human experience.

Greg Kurstin, fresh from working with Foo Fighters, produced it in a concentrated two-month burst, and Spike Stent mixed it. A string section swells through "Heat Above" and "Broken Bells," "Built By Nations" stomps, and Josh Kiszka's voice soars over the lot. "Age Of Machine" and "The Weight Of Dreams" give Jake Kiszka room for long, unhurried guitar solos. Sam Kiszka's bass and keys fill out the bottom end, and the run from "Caravel" into "The Barbarians" plays like the final reel of an epic film.

Guitar World's readers voted the "Age Of Machine" solo the best of 2021, and Total Guitar's readers went further, calling the "The Weight Of Dreams" solo the greatest of the century so far. Bold, given the century had about eighty years left to run, but we take the point.
