About the album

Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory never set out to make pop music. Then the singles from Black Cherry took over dance floors across North America, and the duo decided to lean in, renting a small house in the countryside near Bath in late 2004 and writing for months away from all distractions. Alison summed up the result as an electronic, glam cross between Berlin, New York and North-East Somerset.

"Ooh La La" struts in on the first electric guitar the duo ever used, a glitter-stomp that became their biggest UK single. "Number 1" is a cool, sleek meditation on relationships that matter even when they don't last, "Ride a White Horse" was made for disco balls, and "Fly Me Away" floats. The hooks are subtle rather than shouty. The second disc brings new mixes from Richard X, who reworks "Beautiful," Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, Phones, Sun and Goldfrapp themselves.

Twenty years on, it still sounds like the coolest party in the room. North-East Somerset has rarely been so well represented on the dance floor, and we'd wager it hasn't been since.
