About the album

Future announced his fifth album on social media on Valentine's Day 2017 and had it out three days later. He called it simply Future, and Takashi Murakami painted the cover, the rapper blurred in a haze of yellow while shaking his watch at the camera. A deluxe version later added "Used To This" and "Extra Luv," both included here.

The beats come from his usual Atlanta brain trust: Metro Boomin, Zaytoven and Southside, with 808 Mafia's DY, Fuse, Tarentino and Tre Pounds, DJ Khaled and The Beat Bully on the opener, and Jake One and Illmind sneaking in as co-producers. "Draco" came first as a single, "Mask Off" turned a flute loop into a summer-long anthem, "Used To This" brings in Drake, and "Extra Luv" with YG followed later. "Rent Money," "Zoom" and "Poppin' Tags" keep the pressure on throughout.

Exclaim! called it 'an opus full of bangers,' and it has aged into a cornerstone of modern trap. Three days' notice for 20 tracks is less warning than most of us get for a dentist's appointment, and nobody seems to have minded.
