Joe's Garage is Zappa's satirical rock opera masterpiece, full of hilarious storytelling, virtuoso playing and "Watermelon in Easter Hay," one of his most gorgeous guitar solos.
Narrated by the Central Scrutinizer, the story follows Joe, a kid from Canoga Park who forms a garage band and runs afoul of a society where music is outlawed, a wild satire of censorship, religion and the music business.
The title track is a catchy garage-rock romp, "A Token of My Extreme" and "Sy Borg" are inventive, "Packard Goose" rails at critics, and "Watermelon in Easter Hay" is a breathtaking, emotional instrumental.
