About the album

Florence Welch arrived fully formed. Her debut album, Lungs, landed in July of 2009 with a voice that critics compared to Kate Bush and Fiona Apple and a sound that swung from stomping garage rock to harp-swept, gothic soul without ever feeling like it was trying too hard.

Producers James Ford, Paul Epworth and Eg White helped build the record around her, but it's Welch's show: the handclap euphoria of "Dog Days Are Over," the scrappy "Kiss with a Fist," the drama of "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" and her thunderous take on "You've Got the Love." Lungs went to No. 1 in the UK, won British Album of the Year at the Brit Awards and set Florence + the Machine up for a career of filling arenas.
