About the album

Lungs could not have a more appropriate title. Florence Welch just belts and belts and belts and lets it all out, her personal volume perpetually set at a cathartic "11" throughout her 2009 debut album with the nebulous backing band known as the Machine. It's the musical equivalent of standing on a windblown ocean cliff for 45 minutes while cloaked in some kind of animal skin and ... I dunno ... waving a sceptre or a trident or a staff or something at the roiling firmament. Maybe on fire, too. Definitely near fire, at any rate.

Rolling Stone put it best, and you can't really top that.

"The best bits feel like being chased through a moonless night by a sexy moor witch."
