Fleetwood Mac's adventurous 1979 double album Tusk as a 2LP set, with "Sara," "Think About Me" and the marching-band title track.
This 2LP set keeps the original double-album layout with printed inner sleeves for all four sides. Tusk went to No. 1 in the UK and No. 4 in the US, and the title track and "Sara" both reached the US top ten.
The obvious move after Rumours was to make Rumours again. Lindsey Buckingham had other ideas. Taken with Talking Heads and the post-punk records coming out of London and New York, he steered the band toward something stranger, and Mick Fleetwood decided early that it would be a double album. The band rented Studio D, a custom room built for them at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles.
Several of Buckingham's songs, including "The Ledge," "Save Me a Place" and "That's Enough for Me," came from his home studio, where he once played a Kleenex box as a snare drum. Stevie Nicks brings "Sara" and "Sisters of the Moon," Christine McVie supplies "Think About Me," "Over & Over" and "Never Make Me Cry," and the title track pulls in the USC Trojan Marching Band for horns and percussion. Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut co-produced with the band.
It cost about $1.4 million to make, a record sum for a rock album at the time, and still sold four million copies. The marching band, as far as we can tell, has yet to send an invoice.
