Faces' 1971 second album Long Player, a Start Your Ear Off Right 2026 edition cut from the original analog master, with "Had Me a Real Good Time" and "Maybe I'm Amazed."
This Start Your Ear Off Right 2026 edition is cut from the original 1971 analog master and housed in a die-cut, top-loading jacket. It holds the band's live Fillmore East take on Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and the party anthem "Had Me a Real Good Time."
Faces were the band that made rock and roll sound like the best night out of your life. Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones rolled into their second album with a loose, ragged swagger and a rare gift for tenderness when it counted.
"Bad 'N' Ruin" opens with McLagan's barrelhouse keys and a Stewart vocal that sounds like it's been out all night, "Had Me a Real Good Time" is a stomping singalong, and "Tell Everyone" and "Richmond" show off Ronnie Lane's gentle, homespun songwriting. "Sweet Lady Mary" is one of the loveliest ballads Stewart ever sang. Two tracks, "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "I Feel So Good," were recorded live at the Fillmore East in New York on November 10, 1970, and the band closes, rather gloriously, with an instrumental "Jerusalem."
It's a record that plays like a band having the time of their lives in front of you. Ending a rock album with the hymn from the Last Night of the Proms is the kind of decision best made after a long lunch, and we're very glad they made it.
