The Faces' 1971 album with "Stay with Me," an indie exclusive from Rhino's Start Your Ear Off Right 2026 series, cut from the original analog master.
This Start Your Ear Off Right 2026 indie exclusive is cut from the original 1971 analog master and comes with a poster. The album went to No. 2 in the UK and No. 6 in the U.S., went gold, and "Stay with Me" became the band's biggest American hit.
There's a strong case that the best party of 1971 happened every night the Faces walked on stage, and A Nod Is as Good as a Wink... to a Blind Horse is about as close as a record gets to bottling it. Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones made it with Glyn Johns co-producing and engineering, and it has the loose, slightly ramshackle genius of a band that knew exactly how good it was and refused to look like it was trying.
"Stay with Me" is the swaggering headline, but the album runs deeper than that. Lane steps up to sing three of his own songs, including the lovely "Debris," a tender look at fathers and sons, and "You're So Rude," while McLagan's piano keeps the whole thing rolling and a cover of Chuck Berry's "Memphis" lets the band stretch out.
Critics and fans alike tend to call it the group's definitive statement, and it turns up in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. If you love the Stones' Exile era or early Rod solo, this is the next stop. Johns got the whole thing in at just over 35 minutes, which for the Faces counts as punctual.
