On order
The Stranger Things star's music project hit a whole new gear after "End of Beginning" went viral, and The Crux is the full-length payoff: shimmering, '70s-tinged psych-pop recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York.
Most people know Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, the hair-sprayed hero of Stranger Things, but a whole new generation of fans knows him as Djo, the guy behind the wistful viral smash "End of Beginning." The Crux, his third album, is where he proves that wasn't a fluke: a warm, wonky, gloriously '70s-indebted psych-pop record that sounds like it was made by someone who grew up on '70s AM radio and never got over it.
Keery co-produced it with his longtime collaborator Adam Thein at Electric Lady Studios in New York, and it's full of little left turns: falsetto hooks, fuzzed-out guitars and drum machines nudging up against live drums. "Basic Being Basic," "Delete Ya" and "Potion" were the singles, but the deep cuts are where the fun really is.
