Disturbed's 2000 debut The Sickness in a 25th anniversary edition on green vinyl, with "Down With The Sickness," "Stupify" and "Voices."
This limited 25th anniversary edition comes on green vinyl. The Sickness is the band's biggest album, certified five times platinum, and it spent 106 weeks on the Billboard 200.
Disturbed did their apprenticeship the hard way. Formed in Chicago in 1994, they spent years on the south side building a following one cassette, sticker and T-shirt at a time, in a city that leaned more Smashing Pumpkins than metal. When heavier sounds swept rock at the end of the 90s, Giant Records signed them, and The Sickness arrived in March 2000.
David Draiman's clipped, percussive vocal style and Dan Donegan's tight, solo-free riffing gave the band an instantly recognizable sound, with Mike Wengren's drums and Fuzz's bass locked in underneath. "Down With The Sickness" is the one everybody knows, that tribal drum intro and all, while "Stupify" and "Voices" were rock radio staples. "The Game" and "Fear" grind, "Numb" and "Meaning Of Life" pummel, and "Shout 2000" turns the Tears for Fears hit into a heavy stomper. Producer Johnny K helped them keep it tight, punchy and radio-ready without sanding off the edges.
It launched a career that took the band to the top of the Billboard 200 several times over. A quarter century on, it remains the soundtrack of choice for anyone moving a fridge up three flights of stairs.
