The Devil Wears Prada's 2009 metalcore album With Roots Above and Branches Below on metallic gold vinyl: "Dez Moines," "Danger: Wildman" and "Assistant to the Regional Manager."
Real Gone Music's reissue comes on metallic gold vinyl with a printed inner sleeve. The album debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200, selling about 31,000 copies in its first week.
Metalcore bands don't usually name their songs after sitcom gags, which is half the fun here. The Dayton, Ohio band's third album pairs crushing riffs with a sense of humour that runs straight through the track list, and "Assistant to the Regional Manager" is exactly the nod to The Office you'd hope for. Formed in 2005 and signed early to Rise Records, the band had already built a devoted following through constant touring by the time this one arrived.
Mike Hranica's screams and Jeremy DePoyster's clean vocals trade blows over twin guitars, keyboards and a lot of breakdowns, from opener "Sassafras" through "Dez Moines" and "Big Wiggly Style" to "Ben Has a Kid" and "Louder Than Thunder." "Danger: Wildman" lives up to its billing, and the album signs off with "Lord Xenu," a big, heavy finale with the whole band firing at once and not a breath left in reserve.
They went on to make nine studio albums, the latest, Flowers, in 2025. Any record with a song called "I Hate Buffering" has our sympathy; the shop's card machine feels the same most Saturdays.
