About the album

Between Soundgarden and Audioslave, Chris Cornell made a quieter, stranger record than either band would have, and it's the one many of his fans hold closest. He wrote and recorded it with Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider of the band Eleven in their Los Angeles home studio, and the three of them produced, arranged and mixed it together. The sound is shaded and textured, psychedelic folk-rock with that unmistakable voice at the centre.

"Flutter Girl" started life as a Superunknown outtake, its title borrowed from a joke track list Jeff Ament wrote for the film Singles. "Wave Goodbye" is Cornell's tribute to his friend Jeff Buckley, "Moonchild" is a tender song for his then-wife, and "Mission" was reworked for the Mission: Impossible 2 soundtrack. "Preaching the End of the World" later inspired the title of the film Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

It sold over 75,000 copies in its first week. Cornell said that years earlier one reviewer thought the old title sounded like a potpourri scent, and you can rather see why he wanted his poetry back.
