About the album

Jazz historian Dave Gelly once described the young Chet Baker as "James Dean, Sinatra, and Bix, rolled into one," and it's hard to improve on that. With movie-star looks, a feather-light trumpet tone and a voice like a whisper, he became the face of West Coast cool.

This collection gathers the songs that made his name, many from the classic Chet Baker Sings and It Could Happen to You. "My Funny Valentine" is the definitive version for a lot of listeners, "Let's Get Lost" swings gently, "But Not for Me" and "Just Friends" are pure charm, and "I Fall in Love Too Easily" and "Deep in a Dream" will melt your heart.

Best saved for after midnight, when that feather-light trumpet sounds softer still.
