Chastity's new album on inferno vinyl: ten songs built around a 1976 barn fire at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. Pre-order now, out November 13, 2026.
Pre-order
Inferno vinyl for a record that circles a fire. Brandon Williams built Chastity's new album around a night in 1976 when a 16-year-old patient set a barn ablaze at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital, and lead single "Misled Youth" is all fuzz pedals and heartbreak.
Brandon Williams has been building Chastity in Whitby, Ontario since 2015, and before that he was the kid putting on DIY punk shows in a barn in town, so it makes a certain sense that his new album goes back to another Whitby barn. In 1976 a 16-year-old patient at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital set fire to a huge barn on the hospital grounds; it plays out here as a small act of resistance against total control.
The ten songs pull melodic hardcore, shoegaze and punk into one fuzzed-out haze. Stereogum heard heavy emo and power-pop under there too, and compared the band to both Jesu and The Promise Ring, which is about right: "Misled Youth" sounds hopeless and huge at the same time, and the LP runs from "Blink And See God" to the closer "Making Peace With The Horrors Of Being Me."
It follows the self-titled album from 2024, with Deathwish putting it out in the US and Dine Alone at home. If Chastity's earlier records got their hooks in you, this one goes deeper still, right into his hometown's history.
