About the album

Bring Me the Horizon started out as a metalcore band. By their sixth album, singer Oli Sykes and keyboardist Jordan Fish were producing themselves, writing and recording mostly in Los Angeles, and folding electronic music, pop and rock into one big, colourful sound. They named it after the Portuguese word for I love. Billboards across London and other cities carrying symbols from the band's past trailed it first.

"Mantra" came first and debuted at No. 1 on the UK Rock & Metal chart, "Nihilist Blues" features Grimes, and "Medicine" and "Mother Tongue" are as pop as the band had ever gone. "Wonderful Life" brings in Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth, while "Sugar Honey Ice & Tea" and "Heavy Metal" keep the guitars cranked. "In the Dark" later became the seventh single.

The First Love World Tour took it round the globe in 2019, and it picked up a Kerrang! Award nomination for Best Album. Hiring the singer from Cradle of Filth for a song called "Wonderful Life" is the sort of casting we rather admire.
