The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me is regularly ranked among the greatest emo and alternative albums of the 2000s, a dramatic leap forward for the Long Island band.
Brand New recorded their third album with producer Mike Sapone on Long Island and in Massachusetts, moving far beyond their pop-punk beginnings into something darker, more experimental and more ambitious: quiet, intimate passages exploding into walls of guitar.
"Sowing Season" opens with a slow build to a thunderous burst of energy, "Jesus Christ" is a hushed, much-loved single, "Degausser" is a towering anthem, and "Millstone" is a fan favourite. A record that has only grown in stature.
