Boards of Canada's 2006 Trans Canada Highway as a 12-inch EP on 140g vinyl, cut from the original metalwork, with "Dayvan Cowboy" and its Odd Nosdam remix.
This 140g 12-inch EP was cut from the original metalwork and comes with a Trans Canada sticker and a download card. It reached No. 4 on the UK Independent Albums chart and No. 12 on the US Top Dance Albums chart.
The name is a clue. Scottish brothers Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin spent 1979 and 1980 in Calgary while their father worked on building the Saddledome, and they named the band after the National Film Board of Canada. This 2006 EP, out on Warp the year after The Campfire Headphase, is their most openly Canadian title yet. It also reached No. 63 on the UK Albums chart.
The brothers wrote, played and produced every note themselves. "Dayvan Cowboy" carries over from that album, a slow, sunlit swell of guitar and synth; its video paired Joseph Kittinger's high-altitude parachute jumps with surfer Laird Hamilton, and Pitchfork ranked it among the 50 best music videos of the 2000s. New pieces "Left Side Drive," "Heard From Telegraph Lines," "Skyliner" and "Under the Coke Sign" drift through the duo's warm, warped tape tones, and Odd Nosdam stretches "Dayvan Cowboy" into a nine-minute remix with added strings.
Six tracks of wide-open road music, recorded at the brothers' own Hexagon Sun studio. It's the most Canadian record Scotland has ever sent us, give or take curling.
