Black Country, New Road's thrilling 2021 debut For the First Time: "Sunglasses," "Science Fair," "Track X" and "Athens, France."
For the First Time was one of the most exciting debuts of its year, a bold collision of post-punk, klezmer, jazz and spoken-word drama that earned a Mercury Prize nomination.
The young London septet, with saxophone, violin and keyboards alongside guitars, builds tense, sprawling songs that lurch between quiet intricacy and explosive noise, led by Isaac Wood's wry, anxious delivery.
"Sunglasses" is a nine-minute marvel, "Science Fair" crashes and roars, "Athens, France" is jittery and sharp, and "Track X" is a gentle, gorgeous moment of calm.
For the first time, and not the last.
