Björk's 1996 remix album Telegram as a 2LP set cut at 45 RPM, with songs from Post reworked by the Brodsky Quartet, Eumir Deodato, Dillinja and Mika Vainio.
This 2LP set is remastered from the original master tapes, cut at 45 RPM with Direct Metal Mastering. AllMusic called Telegram an excellent introduction to techno for alternative pop fans, and it has sold 228,000 copies in the U.S.
Most remix albums sand the edges off; Björk wanted the opposite. She described Telegram as Post with every element exaggerated, starker and more naked, a record she'd buy herself. Nearly every song from Post gets remade here, all of them first heard as B-sides on the UK singles, apart from the "Enjoy" mix.
The Brodsky Quartet turn "Hyperballad" into chamber music, Deodato wraps "Isobel" in lush strings, Dillinja sends "Cover Me" into drum and bass, "Army of Me" gets a heavy stomp from Graham Massey, and Mika Vainio strips "Headphones" down to a pulse. "Possibly Maybe" opens the set in its Lucy mix, and Dobie gives "I Miss You" a sunshine mix. There's one new song, too: "My Spine," a percussion piece bumped from Post at the last minute, which became a B-side before landing here.
The cover portrait is by Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, and Björk said the album closed the chapter of Debut and Post. CMJ reckoned the reworkings were actually better than Post, which is a brave thing to say anywhere near a Björk fan.
