Björk's 1993 solo breakthrough Debut: "Human Behaviour," "Venus as a Boy," "Big Time Sensuality" and "Violently Happy."
On order
Debut introduced the world to Björk as a solo artist and mixed house music, jazz and pure pop into something nobody had heard before. "Human Behaviour" and "Venus as a Boy" still sound fresh.
Björk had already been famous in Iceland since childhood, and with the Sugarcubes she'd become an indie favourite, but when she moved to London and teamed up with Soul II Soul producer Nellee Hooper, something new happened. Debut is warm, curious and wildly inventive, built on club beats, harps, strings, saxophones and that one-of-a-kind voice.
"Human Behaviour" looks at people from the point of view of an animal, "Venus as a Boy" is gentle and sensual, "Big Time Sensuality" and "Violently Happy" are pure dance-floor joy, and she sings the jazz standard "Like Someone in Love" over a lone harp. It was a huge success all over the world and kicked off one of the most fearless careers in music.
